FAQ's
Everything you need to know before training starts.
About Us & General Training
Where are you based?
We’re based in Oswestry, Shropshire but do travel for 121 services.
Where do the sessions take place?
The first session takes place on zoom in the comfort of your home. The first in-person session is often in your home, but follow-on sessions will be wherever we think would benefit most - this is often playing fields but can be anywhere depending on what the dog needs. Sessions that need one of my dogs to practise with, will need to take place in or near to oswestry.
What type of training do you use?
The kindest and most fun yet effective methods using mostly positive reinforcement. We do not use unneeded force, tools or fear to train dogs – they deserve better than that! We do however treat all dogs individually and will utilise methods that will work for each owner and dog team. It is not a one size fits all.
What are your working hours?
Monday to Saturday, usually 8:30am–6:00pm. Any classes you book usually run after 6pm.
How do I get started?
Book a free, no-obligation discovery call to discuss what training would be most suitable for you and your dog. This can be a phone or video call, whichever you would prefer.
What are your qualifications?
Amie has a First-Class degree in Canine Clinical Behaviour, a degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, and is a qualified Puppy School UK teacher. Amie also holds a Diploma in Canine Nutrition and is also first aid trained.
Our Packages
What packages do you offer?
Please visit our packages page to see what we have to offer.
What's the difference between the packages?
They're designed for different needs and stages - from laying puppy foundations, through general everyday training, up to more in-depth behavioural work like reactivity or aggression. Some combine our unique training walk service too!
How do I know which package is right for my dog?
Before booking a package, you can book a free discovery call where your dog's age, needs and goals are discussed so you can be pointed towards the most suitable option.
What happens after I book a package?
Your package begins with an initial Zoom consultation, followed by your in-person training sessions (and training walks, where included), booked in at times that suit you. You will then also be able to message Amie for advice anytime!
Do the packages include travel?
Yes – Generally, if you live within 30 minutes of Oswestry, travel is included.
How long do I have to use my package sessions?
The package should be completed within 6 months. Any sessions not used after 12 months will be lost and not refunded.
What if I need more sessions than my package includes?
Once you have finished all of the sessions included in your package, you will be sent a link to book additional sessions if required.
Can I pay in instalments?
No – all packages require upfront payment at the time of booking your initial Zoom consultation.
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
Cancellations within 48 hours of the session cannot be refunded and will be lost. In times of adverse weather, if Amie deems it unsafe to train, the session will be rescheduled.
My dog is older than 12 months - can they still do the Puppy Training Programme?
The Puppy Training Programme is designed for puppies up to 12 months old. For dogs older than this, the Reactivity Programme, "Done For You" Training Walk Programme, or Reactivity Transformation Programme may be more suitable - this can be discussed on your free discovery call.
Puppy Socialisation Classes
How many other puppies will be in my class?
Classes are limited to just 4 puppies, so busy, noisy, overwhelming environments are avoided and everyone gets a personal experience.
I'm worried my puppy will disrupt the class - what if they don't settle?
That's completely normal - we don't expect puppies to be fully settled right away. "Settle" is one of the first things covered in week 1, and I have lots of tips to help. If a puppy is very anxious or barky, moving to 1-2-1 sessions in our Puppy Package may be discussed if that's felt to be best for everyone.
Will my puppy get to play with other dogs?
It depends on the puppies - uncontrolled rough and tumble isn't allowed, as this doesn't help learning. If pups are a good match, there will be some well-managed off-lead time used for training and confidence-building, though this is often calm rather than "playing."
Will there be any follow-on classes?
Yes - teenage classes for further training are available once the puppy classes are completed.
My puppy is nervous - is this course suitable for them?
Yes, small class sizes mean the course can be adapted to a nervous puppy's needs. If a puppy is already very barky around other dogs, it's best to get in touch before booking to assess whether the group setting or our 1-2-1 Puppy Package would be more beneficial.
Walk & Train
What makes this different to the “Done For You” Training Walking Package?
With the Walk and Train Package, you don’t get the training sessions included. You will be allocated a day and a time slot for 4 weeks and Nicole will collect your dog, take them on a training walk and return them home. You will be sent videos and updates from the walks.
Who delivers the training walks?
Nicole does the majority of the training walks, whilst Amie delivers most of the training sessions.
How do I know if training walks are right for my dog?
Book a free call to talk through your goals and challenges, and it can be discussed whether training walks are the right fit and how the process works.
Scentwork
What is Scentwork?
Scentwork is a fun way to use a dog's energy and fulfil their natural instinct to sniff. It's suitable for all ages and no experience is needed.
What Scentwork options are available?
Group courses, 1-1 courses, and reactive dog group courses - so there's an option for everybody
Online Training Consult
What is the Online Training Consult?
This is a one-to-one session over Zoom to talk through your dogs problems and get your questions answered, ideal if you have lots of puppy-related questions or live too far away for in-person sessions.
How does it work?
It's a "pay as you go" service - so you book a session as needed, and you'll receive messaging support and video feedback after your consult.
